In this 85-minute session, participants will learn how to analyze the cognitive demand of math tasks using a shared set of criteria to distinguish between low- and high-demand tasks. Teachers will explore how different types of tasks support both purposeful practice and deep mathematical reasoning, and will apply this understanding to plan a balanced sequence of tasks within an upcoming unit. The session emphasizes intentional task design so all students have opportunities to engage in reasoning while also building fluency through appropriately designed practice.
