Pressing for Reasoning during Mathematics Instruction
Thursday June 11, 2026 8:30am - 9:55am CDT
Pressing for reasoning is the intentional use of questioning, prompts, and instructional moves to surface students’ mathematical thinking, make their reasoning explicit, and advance understanding beyond answers alone. In this session, participants will explore and practice strategies for pressing for reasoning that align with the P³ Mathematics Framework by supporting high-quality tasks and purposeful mathematical discourse to elevate student sensemaking and justification.
